AECOM - Engineering Internship

The AECOM STEM & Engineering Internship is an incredible opportunity for students interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to gain hands-on experience in infrastructure consulting and transportation engineering. As a PYN WorkReady Intern, participants will shadow experienced engineers, review real-world project documents, and engage with engineering design tools, gaining valuable insight into transportation, water infrastructure, and urban development.


Interns will work alongside industry professionals at AECOM’s Philadelphia Office, which is part of the company’s Global Design and Consulting Services (DCS) branch. With exposure to major projects for PennDOT, SEPTA, Amtrak, and the Philadelphia Water Department, interns will develop technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and engineering fundamentals while working on real infrastructure challenges. This internship is a stepping stone into the world of engineering, design, and consulting.


Responsibilities Include: 

  • Shadow AECOM engineers across multiple disciplines and departments

  • Review engineering design manuals and project documents (plans, reports, calculations)

  • Gain exposure to industry-standard modeling software (AutoDesk, Bentley Products)

  • Participate in design tasks, including creating graphics and developing calculations

  • Engage in team meetings and check-ins with AECOM professionals

  • Deliver a final presentation showcasing key learnings from the internship
