Tuesday, June 17, Mayor Michael Nutter called area employers to encourage new WorkReady summer internships and thank those who already participate in this program. Mayor Nutter also met with three Philadelphia youth who have turned to WorkReady for summer employment. While two, Desiree Ray of Frankford High School and Kierra McDaniels of Ben Franklin High School, have internships for the summer, the third, Pavel Abreu, a 2008 graduate of Edison High School, still awaits placement. This event was covered by CBS 3 News and is part of an ongoing effort by the Mayor, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and PYN to recruit 1,500 paid internships for Philadelphia young people this summer.
